About

Texas artist Michele Petrucci has dedicated her life to uncovering the hidden elegance within forgotten objects. This passion was sparked in her youth, as she and her mother bonded over the thrill of reclaiming discarded treasures from roadside collections and junk piles, seeing potential where others saw waste.

Every artist knows that moment when making art turns into discovering it. For me, it’s when I see aged brass or finely crafted cast iron reveal its true self — like an eye, spine, wing, heart. That essence was always there; I just bring it to light. I’m an assemblage sculptor who loves working with vintage hardware and parts chosen for their age. The character of these materials just can’t be matched by anything modern. My studio is packed with what I think are the best sculptural materials, and I’ve spent years learning how to spot them. I don’t start with a plan. Each piece transforms in front of me — a chandelier fitting might become a torso, and couch legs can take on a purposeful stance. The creature takes shape through my hands, guided by something that’s beyond my conscious thought.

Take Rosie, for example — she’s my figure inspired by the classic mid-century mechanical housekeeper. Made from vintage electronics and reclaimed parts, she’s a mix of old-school optimism and modern art, crafted from the ingenuity of the past while dreaming of the future. I belong to the assemblage tradition, where beauty and meaning are found in everyday items. Each of my creations is one-of-a-kind; Rosie can’t be replicated. She stands there, ready to catch a traveler’s eye, inviting them to see the as a richer and more vibrant place than they thought.

I would be delighted to create a unique piece for you using family memorabilia. Here’s an example of a recent commission that incorporated medals and awards to celebrate a son's service and achievements.
